We are very grateful for donations at our hubs across the county

To send us your laptop

  • We can take laptops up to 12 years old (Windows 7 or later and all chromebooks and macs).
  • We will securely wipe your device and don’t normally need passwords; please just ensure any corporate or firmware security is removed.
  • We can replace chargers and fix minor faults (batteries, screens etc) and will upgrade your laptop and install a modern operating system.

To send us your phone or tablet

  • We’re able to use iPhone 5s or Android 8 or newer smartphones or tablets.
  • Any “dumb phones” (eg old style Nokia) are also welcome
  • Please factory reset your phone or tablet to release from you iCloud or Google account before sending (or we’ll have to scrap the device). See instructions below

How to prepare your device for Donation

These are the most important things to make sure we can use your device:

All Apple and modern Google devices are locked to your account and can’t be used for anything other than spare parts until released. If you are comfortable, follow these instructions from Apple or these for Android. Alternatively, when you donate the device, make sure it’s fully charged, bring your Apple ID or Google account email and password and another device on your account if you have one, and we’ll help you through the process.

When you drop off, we’ll ask you to fill in a donation form with your contact details, primarily in case we need to contact you to help with unlocking. If you’d like to fill it in before coming down, you can download a copy here.

Some devices, particularly devices from your employer and more modern laptops, have additional security which will need dealing with. For example a firmware or BIOS password or an encrypted drive. If you are comfy resetting these yourself, that’s ideal, or we will be happy to discuss the specifics if you are unsure.

Chargers are one of our biggest costs, so if you have yours (and any spares!), this is hugely helpful to us.

To keep things safe and clean, please give your device a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. Microfibre cloths with just a little water are ideal for cleaning screens, keyboards etc and won’t harm the device.

Your questions answered…

What about my data?

We securely wipe all devices, so long as they’re of the requested age and working properly. Older or damaged devices may not be wiped to this best standard. We would be happy to look at your device with you if you would like more detail or reassurance on what will happen to it.

What if you can’t use my device?

Some devices such as desktop computers and particularly high-value laptops may not be suitable for our beneficiaries but are sold to raise funds for the project. For older devices, we do our best to find a home for them in the community, for example passing on via freecycle, or we work with electronics recycling partners for everything that is beyond reasonable repair.

Who will get my device?

We work with a wide network of partners across Oxfordshire to reach as many people in need as possible. Check out our impact page to see stories from people who’ve found work, completed education, built confidence and reduced isolation from being able to access the internet.

Are you interested to coordinate collections in your community or set up as a drop-off point?

We’d love to hear from you! There are a few simple steps to ensure everyone’s data is secure and we’re able to use the donations people provide. Please get in touch and we’ll help you get all set up.
