Exploring digital inclusion need in our county

We are excited to be hiring for a 3-month role exploring digital inclusion needs in the 10 most deprived wards in Oxfordshire.

Working January to March 2025, your task will be to meet as wide as possible representation of people in the community and understand barriers to digital inclusion. This could include community centres, local charities, care homes etc.

As well as building a picture of digital inclusion need, you will work with local partners such as libraries and the GOO team to trial new digital support offerings in the areas where you have found highest demand. This could include building a team of volunteers for drop-in sessions at community larders, or helping people to make referrals for refurbished equipment from Getting Oxfordshire Online. And of course we’ll want to hear your ideas for innovative ways of helping the people we don’t yet reach.

Could this be for you?

For this short-term role, we would be happy to work with you on a freelance basis on a competitive day rate + travel expenses, or will look at setting you up as a SOFEA employee if this is easier for you.

As you will be working with vulnerable people, we will require that you complete an enhanced DBS check and we will request references from your previous work.

This role, running January to March 2025 is for 3 days (24 hours) per week; we will offer as much flexibility as possible for you to work in the best way for you.

You will need the following skills:

  • Self-motiviated and organised, able to run the project independently
  • Confident meeting new people and a good listener, empathetic able to understand a needs in a diverse group of people
  • Analytical, able to gather information from conversations and collate in a format which can be presented
  • Confident with “using IT” – not necessarily a pro techie, but confident in understanding the problems people are describing
  • High quality written work, able to pull together a polished final report

We hope that we’ll be able to offer ongoing work after this first phase of the project is finished. This will be subject to funding and the success of this first phase.
